“What is it that you plan to do with that one wild and precious life you’ve been given?”
– Mary Oliver
You are staying busy to avoid feeling anxious.
It’s late. Today’s work is over. You’re the last one off to bed after taking care of everyone else, as usual. The house is quiet. You pause…
Instead of enjoying the moment of peaceful reflection for which you long, there’s that vague sense of dread.
More and more, it seems like you find yourself filled with anxiety and heaviness whenever you stop. You feel off-center, never really at ease.
Although you’re exhausted, you don’t want to go to bed because you know it’ll be another restless night of tossing and turning.
You’re not just tired; you’re weary.
Weariness gnaws at you.
You ache, longing for something different, something better, something more – it’s deep down in your bones, in your cells.
Your chest is tight – breathing shallow – your head and body ache. Even worse, your heart and soul ache.
Then, you cry; you don’t understand it, but you know something is just not right.
Perhaps it’s you who is not right.
There is no happiness, but you use distraction most of the time to avoid the feeling. But when you allow yourself to stop for a moment, there’s that lurking, gnawing sense that you’re not enough.
Why can’t you feel peaceful and happy inside your skin like other women seem to? Instead, most of the time, you are anxious, sad, lonely, irritable, and fed up.
More and more, you notice a tendency to snap at the people you love.
You ask, “What the hell is wrong with me?”
God, it’s so exhausting.
Once simple tasks now feel annoying or overwhelming – just getting through the day is a chore, a slog.
What happened to all your goals, plans, and dreams? Where is the woman that you thought you’d be at this point in life?
Seeking help pops in your mind; but you’ve tried therapy before, and it was a bust. Thinking about reaching out for help now leaves you feeling even worse.
Continuing to feel this way is not a good idea. Still, you know you need help.
Contemplating the right move, but…
You don’t even know how you got here, much less how to get from here to where you want to be.
One thing is for sure; you are sick and tired of feeling this way. Life can be better than the current one.
What you need is help from someone who gets it.
You don’t want another therapist who nods and says, “mmm-hmm.” You don’t have the time, patience, money, or energy to waste on that course of action again.
Figuring out what works would make life better.
It would help if you had someone who can figure out what’s wrong, what you want and need, and what keeps holding you back and sabotaging life for which you long, whatever that may be.
It would be such a relief to find someone who understands you and can help you find comfort, peace, and a decent night’s sleep.
Wouldn’t that be amazing to have someone who could help transform this unhappy, irritable place of longing and desperation into your most loyal, most profound, most authentic, hopeful, happy, loving, and fulfilled self?
